about

Because I love you the most, I've decided to release this song exclusively on BandCamp a full twenty days ahead of the dreaded streaming platforms. I thank you for being here, and hope you enjoy the song. Go spread some love this month, and by all means... canoodle away.

This is a song about trying to love on someone during a global pandemic. The song title and inspiration came during a lockdown livestream that Neil Finn was performing. He said the word in conversation, and it stuck with me enough that it ended up as an entire song.

The Origin of this Song:
April 10, 2020
During Neil Finn’s Fang Radio internet show, he offers some fun caveats in between songs. Yesterday, he told a story about how when he was young, he would play and sing at parties. I did as well, and really related to this next part. He mentioned that all of the girls he fancied would wind up ‘canoodling’ with other young men... not him. Anyway, the word ‘canoodle’ stuck with me. Under these current circumstances, I felt the need to try and write a song based on this one activity, all while dovetailing it into our current global event. So here it is, for all of you stuck without a romantic subject to squeeze. I love you all. Soon enough... soon enough you’ll be free to get back to it. And once we are all free again, I would be delighted to assume a role similar to Neil’s, and play my guitar and sing whilst you do what it is that you (one day soon), do.

lyrics

Canoodle Dan Haas

Remember hugging? Remember touching?
Remember holding hands for the first time?
Remember shoulders to cry on. And bellies to lie on.
And the color of your lover’s eyes?

Remember smiling? Remember laughing?
Remember flirting with your hands holding mine?
Remember long walks in the park? Nervous excitement in the dark
With our hearts keeping time?

I want the days and nights with you.
To kiss and hug you, even spoon.
I want to be closer than the law said we should
I’m just telling you the truth
Oh I know it ain’t good
I just want to canoodle with you.

When it’s all over. When it’s safe to leave the house.
You’re the very first person I want to take out.
I won’t care about the weather. I’ll love you forever.
What I’d give just to kiss you on mouth.

So I’ll keep hoping. And I’ll keep wishing.
I’ll keep dreaming of the day when we’re all free.
I want your back for me to rub on. Your arms just to hold on.
Forever wrapped around me.

I want the days and nights with you.
To kiss and hug you, even spoon.
I want to be closer than the law said we should be
I’m just telling you the truth
Yeah I know it ain’t good
I just want to canoodle with you.

I just want to canoodle. That’s all I wanna do now.
I just want to canoodle with you.

My primary instrument is guitar, so many songs have an acoustic quality. I'm a fan of lush harmonies, big strings, & dreamy synths. I hope you find something appealing. Thank you for visiting and listening.
