about

Some night this fall, I had band meeting at The White Oak Tavern. When I returned home, this song appeared from the sky. I did my usual YouTube / iPhone video documentation of the idea of a song.

I'm not quite sure what it's about specifically. I think I was going for a study of a lightning-fast, modern day romance... "the arc of a love affair," as Paul Simon once sang.

Now I could noodle with this song for days and days, but it is time to move on and write / work on the next one.

Without further ado, here are the results of this week's home-made music self-taught experiment.

I'm learning... well, trying anyway.

lyrics

Off the fence. On the breakers.
As old as time. The sight of a wave.
Ancient dance with Latin shakers.
The spritz and the rind part of the day.

I believed you when you said, “This is love now.”
It just seemed so far away.
With a shrug you said, “I don’t care.”

My best offence. Guilty as always.
In your hands, the force of a wave.
Spark romance. Arcs and the smolder.
Parts of the plan. This dying day.

I believed you when you said, “This is over.”
It just seemed so far away.
With a shrug that said, “I don’t care.”

Rip the bandage off quickly.
Don’t think its healing so good.
Love starts of so sweet and sticky.
Until someone’s not feeling good.

I believed you when you said, “This is over.”
It just seemed so far away.
With a shrug that said, “I don’t care.”

Off the fence. Slip on the breakers.
Horizon lines. Crests of the wave.

about

Dan Haas Annapolis, Maryland

I have been writing songs since the 90's and have released some albums, EP's, and singles over the years.

My primary instrument is guitar, so many songs have an acoustic quality. I'm a fan of lush harmonies, big strings, & dreamy synths. I hope you find something appealing. Thank you for visiting and listening.
