about
Shhhh. Don't tell a soul. But this song is here for you... officially... for the taking. It won't be released to the streaming services until the 30th of July. But for you... YOU are special. I hope you enjoy!
Here is the story of this song:
This song was written on a cool November afternoon in Dan Haas’s living room. Annapolis’s rooster-folk-new wave specialist Alexander Peters dropped by for a coffee and after a short bit, this song came to fruition. A week of so later, still in November 2019, they met at Ahren Buchheister’s studio to put this hit down onto digital tape.
All of this magic happened prior to the global pandemic.
Dan originally intended to write a handful of songs with some of his favorite local songwriters. This particular tune was one of the first co-writes. Of course, lock downs prohibited the continuation of Dan’s musical adventures. But… there will be a second release forthcoming, from this initiative - a jazzy crooned out collaboration with the Unified Jazz Ensemble.
“Let’s Split,” is a spirited conversation between two songwriters who are considering, debating, pondering, and then scuttling a musical collaboration. :-)
lyrics
LET'S SPLIT
I'm not good at working with others.
I like writing songs on my own.
If it was up to me I'd much rather be singing these songs all alone.
Sure you got yourself a fancy chorus.
But I got me one heck of a verse.
If we can't find a bridge, let's not book a gig.
We won't even have to rehearse.
Let's do it my way. Hit the key of A.
And sing a major harmony.
If this song ain't a hit, we won't even have to quit.
Cause we ain't even started yet.
Let's break up the band, pack up the van
And split.
I guess it would be nice to share the driving.
You pick up the coffee, I'll get the tolls.
When you're on your world tour, life can be a bore
Singing to yourself all alone.
If it were up to me, we'd hit the key of C
And sing one major harmony.
If this song ain't a hit, we won't even have to quit.
Cause we ain't even started yet.
Let's break up the band, pack up the van
And split.
We'll never be Lennon & McCartney. Let's just split.
And Let It Be.
They'll never know, we'll no Hall & Oates. Let's just split.
I could go for that.
Simon ain't your uncle. You're sure no Garfunkel. Let's just split.
Let's not cross those troubled waters.
I don't mean to be silly. We're not even Milli Vanilli. Let's just split.
Girl You Know It's True. Oh Oh.
Peaches & Herb said we don't even deserve to Reunite. Let's just split.
Let's break up the band, pack up the van and split!
